Our amazingly productive REVISION SESSION came up with this plan for a renewal of structures etc. This is the future. Just so you know.

Of course, there is still room for discussions and refinements, however, it is also time to act BEFORE we get a new cohort. So they should be refined and vited upon more or less immediately when we’re all back at the UCF (or perhaps in two stages, if it turns out nobody’s there at the same time).

Anyway. Read it. Think about it. Have a nice break. Come back healthy and happy and eager to do this 🙂

In a nutshell:

NEWS-whiteboard – will always be equipped with present issues and upcoming events

OPEN SESSION – everyone is invited to come, if present topics interest them

new structure

–> opening: brief introduction of topics

–> discuss & chit chat: (ca. 20 min.) talk with whomever you want about the topics that interest you

–> conclusion: briefly collect thoughts/ideas/arguments on the topics

‘VOTING RIGHTS’ for all of those present!

–> if there are immediate decisions to be taken, all those present in the previous discussion may vote

1 GA per block

– wrap up all the important issues into one well-prepared nice GA in a big room 🙂

– of course further GA’s if topics arise, that are very important for all

GA News

In today’s GA, we discussed the issue of Financing the students council activites, such as visits from Maastricht, future parties, or other fun activities!

The GA considered it a good idea to have a basic stock of funding money which can be used for committees and interest groups and whatever great UCF-related ideas you have!

We thank the everyday heroes involved in the last cake sales, for you increased our budget by 100%! 🙂

However, since our budget is quite low these days and since it will take a while until we get money from the ASTA and since nobody seems to be very eager to organize and conduct regular cake sales in the future, we have the following proposal:

In the beginning of the next semester, we will ask for a voluntary donation of lets say 10 € of all new and old LAS students. In the Welcome Week, there will then be a party, where people who donated receive a free beer!


Further results of the GA as follows:

1. The Assembly voted in favor of refunding the costs of the Maastricht visit to the Outreach Committee.
2. Concerning the upcoming Welcome Week, it seems like a LAS-HĂĽttengaudi with the Newbees would be a fun idea! Therefore, we already need to organize a task force as such a hut would need to be reserved within the next weeks. If you think this is a good idea, then find others to organize it with and go ahead =)
3. If you are interested in thinking about the (dis)advantages and necessary features of potential Oral English Classes, please contact Marius Merkle: merkle.marius@web.de
In fact, our Dean is thinking seriously about implementing such courses at the UCF. Therefor, if we want to have our voice heard we need to refine our arguments.
4. Sadly, the LASer Party is not happening this semester, BUT there will be a PEP – Post Exam Party! Somewhere outside, maybe barbecue, definitely music and definitely beer! However, we’re not sure yet about the date.
Keeping in mind that our students council is organized in a non-hierarchical manner,
Let’s try finding a date that fits best for ALL LAS-STUDENTS!

5. As we already wrote in the last Mail, please send us short descriptive texts of charitable projects you want to share with your engaged fellow students, so we can create a nice platform of exchange and inspiration.
6. also, just to clarify; the Erasmus Price celebration has less to do with the Erasmus program, and less to do with anybody winning anything and more with everybody celebrating, namely celebrating our study program! Just forget the name and think of it as a fancy event with a great buffet and influential people who should support the UCF.

GA reflections

During the last GA, we unfortunately all found out once again just how difficult grassroots democracy can be. In the future, we plan to avoid such proliferation by;

– having a speakers list

– having a discussion leader who will

  • highlight the arguments raised to insure that points are not repeated
  • if necessary interrupt overly lengthy speeches
  • keep the whole discussion within a reasonable time frame

– always keep in mind the agenda and the goals of our meeting!

– have a written agenda there, so everybody can see, what topics are discussed in that particular GA and whether it is worth hanging around

– as already stated previously having a definite cut after one hour where all important points have been adressed

– if necessary, outsource topics worthy of discussion to task forces, separate meetings or other means of communication (such as forums or questionnaires…)


We’re constantly working on this topic, and GAs will not always be only pleasant and breezy and light, but we hope that this will already contribute to an effective GA culture in which topics can be addressed effectively.

ABROADen your horizon!

Dear fellow students,

In order to inform you about the fantastic opportunities to go abroad and help you survive the bureaucratic jungle on your way there, we are holding an informational event on

Friday // 09.05.2014 // 4pm // KG I 1221

There will be short lectures about

  • UCF exchanges
  • exchanges through the IO
  • Erasmus programs

Afterwards, there will be an exchange of knowledge between the two generations!

Thus, you will be able to talk to 1st cohort students who will soon depart for their adventures. They can provide details concerning the process the have already been through, be it applying through the IO, through this or that faculty with Erasmus, applying for a DAAD scholarship or the UCF exchanges or be it organizing their own free mover project.

You will find answers to many interesting questions that you previously didn’t even know you had!
