News from Thorsten and the Board of Studies: C1 English requirement

The Board of Studies has decided that all students who pass the course English Academic Writing with a grade better than 3.0 have met the requirements for C1 level in English. Under such circumstances, an additional test is not necessary. All other students have to submit a test from this list by the end of their fourth semester.
This applies to all students currently enrolled in LAS. We will check the grading lists of EAW in the next two weeks and enter the English proficiency for all students who fulfilled the requirements mentioned above.

Looking For

Peer Advisors for Academic Year 2023-24 Wanted

Dear LASers,
In preparation of the next academic year 2023-24, we are looking for peer advisors to welcome and support the upcoming first year students. Please write me an email (international-assistant@ucf.uni-freiburg.de) if you are interested in participating! Sign up in group or alone and we will put you in touch with other interested people. LAS students who are planning to go abroad in the summer semester can participate in the winter semester, as long as they are in a group with another student who is planning to be in Freiburg for the whole year. It is also possible for students in any year of the program to participate. We would particularly like to invite international students to sign up, as it is a big help to incoming international students when some of the peers are familiar with the processes. Next year we would like to have one peer advising group for incoming exchange and Double Degree students. Please let us know if you want to take on that role.

[End of the semester party] looking for volunteers!

We are now recruiting volunteers for the end of semester party, which will be held on the 21st of July. We will separate the tasks into the “organization team” and the “work force“. The organization team will design the events within the party and map out the event proposal. The working force will be doing a bit more practical work (e.g., transporting beer to the venue!).
To volunteer, please send an email to studentscouncil@ucf.uni-freiburg.de.

Miscellaneous/External

Learning and Teaching Day at Uni-Freiburg

“Get out of your bubble! University pedagogy and the rest of the world” – the motto of this year’s Learning and Teaching Day, which invites you to discuss the role of university pedagogy within society: How can it live up to its responsibility towards society? How is the character of university teaching preserved? How can my studies and my teaching benefit from Service Learning? How do I involve stakeholders in my teaching projects? What do I gain from interaction with society as a student and what experiences can I have as a student?
On November 24th, 2023 we would like to discuss these key questions with you, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the university auditorium: Impulse lectures, project presentations, workshops and a “market of possibilities” with information stands, short presentations and sessions. A buffet will be provided for physical well-being and informal togetherness, exchange and encounters.
Take a look with us beyond the campus and find out about various options and formats for a stronger integration of social contexts in teaching and studies. Discuss with other experts about the role of university pedagogy in society today and reflect with us on the future of university eduation under fluctuating social conditions.
The exact program and the possibility to register will be announced at the end of September 2023.

Seminar offered for Students interested in being Student Reviewers

We still have places left for our seminars next week (14.07. – 16.07.). These take place over the weekend and are aimed at students active in university-politics who are  committed to improving their university. After participating in the seminar, you can become a member of the student accreditation pool, which enables you to participate in accreditation procedures as a student reviewer. Our seminars cover all relevant aspects of accreditation, so that you can find your way around the accreditation process.

The student accreditation pool is the nationwide legitimized student interest group that sends students as experts into the accreditation system and promotes their participation. Student representatives have the task of questioning and evaluating the quality of a degree program as part of an assessment.

(Participation free of charge)

What do you get from participating?
– You can become student reviewers in the context of accreditation
– In-depth insight into the quality development processes of courses
– You can campaign more effectively for your interests within your own university
